My Story

I'm not a consultant, just a hardworking business

owner who finally said "enough"

In September 2011, I lost my right leg.

At 6:45 am, I was cycling to work, my head full of whatever business challenge was waiting for me that day. An HGV driver to my right, perhaps as distracted as I was, turned into me. In a split second, both our lives changed forever; mine left me without my right leg.

The journey back from that day taught me more about myself than any business book ever could. Some of it was encouraging. Some of it was uncomfortable. But one thing became clear: many business owners share the same stubborn streak.

I didn’t get the opportunity to go to university, and instead, at the age of 16, after leaving school, I started work in our family manufacturing business, working alongside my father and siblings, and learning the realities of small business from the ground up. Over time, I took on a leadership role and helped grow the company into one of the UK’s most recognised glass design businesses, with award nominations since 2017, including personally being named Silver Businesswoman of the Year 2024

In my 50s, I studied for an MBA, which gave me a fresh perspective on leadership, growth, and building a business in a more sustainable way.  A serious cycling accident on my way to work, together with becoming a grandparent, made me slow down and think more carefully about what really matters.

Today, alongside serving as a trustee for a limb loss charity, I’m passionate about getting the word out there. In a new fast-paced world of technology, let’s change our fixed  single-loop business mindset into a kinder, calmer one.
